EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR NEWCOMERS

..............................................

EDUCATION SYSTEM FOR NEWCOMERS

Designed by newcomers for newcomers, our Education Section is the most comprehensive online directory for Newcomers to Canada interested in learning more about the Canadian education system, both in terms of finding schools for their children (elementary or secondary) or finding suitable post-secondary education (Colleges and Universities) for themselves. This section also includes more information on getting your skills assessed and recognized in Canada, otherwise known as Foreign Credential Recognition. For those interested in learning more about improving their English or French, we also have a dedicated English & French Language section.

Elementary and Secondary School System for your children

The Canadian elementary and secondary school system make up the two basic levels of education for children and young people in Canada. Combined, these two levels of education represent up to 12 years of study, with most kids starting off in kindergarten (pre-school preparation), followed by grades 1 to 12 in elementary and secondary school. Some children spend more than 12 years in the system at various levels, kindergarten, elementary and secondary. If this has been helpful and you want to learn more about the elementary and secondary school system in Canada, visit our Canadian School System section.

Post-Secondary Education System for you or your children

Within the post-secondary (or third level) education system in Canada there are various types of post-secondary institutions or establishments, as well as many forms of post-secondary education. With some institutions being recognized and others not, it is important to understand what the difference is. For example, being recognized generally means that a provincial or territorial government has given the institution the authority to grant degrees, diplomas and other formal qualifications. To learn more about whether an institution is officially recognized or not, please visit our Third Level Education section.

Are you an Internationally Trained or Educated Professional?

As a newcomer to Canada, you are likely to have obtained your trade or professional qualification outside of Canada. If this is the case, then you may need to have your skills assessed and recognized in Canada. Within Canada this is referred to as foreign credential recognition (FCR), while outside of Canada, it is often referred to as skills assessment, skills recognition and/or professional registration. Foreign credential assessment is the process of verifying that your education, training and/or work experience, obtained overseas, is equivalent to the standards in Canada for Canadian workers. Getting your skills assessed and recognized in Canada sometimes means wading through hundred’s of licensing bodies, educational institutions and professional associations but still not finding what you are looking for. Our Credential Recognition section should help you navigate this plethora of information, helping you find what you’re looking for quickly and easily.

Learning or improving your English and French

If you haven’t already discovered, Canada has two official languages, English and French. While the majority of people speak English, particularly outside of Quebec, French is equally as important and all official government services as well as publications and documents are available in both English and French. Having strong English or French language skills is essential for most jobs in Canada and if you are trying to successfully navigate the immigration system in Canada, you will also be required to meet basic English (or French) language proficiency requirements. Our English Language & French Languagesections will give you more information about workplace language skills and sitting your International English Language Test for Canada.

PAKISTANI EDUCATION SECTOR (4)

PAKISTANI EDUCATION SECTOR (4)

Posted on  at

Highly skilled workforce has become a basic need to meet the challenges of contemporary era which is all about competitiveness and efficiency.Human development must be the first and foremost objective of the education in Pakistan as only the curriculum-based education just produces rote memorizers. It is important to note that higher education sector has been playing essential role in human resource development to support the economy of the country by contributing in workforce of approximately four hundred thousands universily graduates, every year, during 2005 to 2009 .The data shows 30% increase in the total graduates output from the universities and degrees awarding institutes (DIA’s) during above mentioned period.
Since 2002,Higher Education Commission has sent about 4,313 scholars in the technically advanced countries for research degrees such as M.Phil and Ph.D out of these 1,214 have completed and returned to the country .Further measures are to be taken to make the human development possible in the literal sense. It is said that crisis in economics or a trade deficit comes about when the nations’ import too many foreign goods’ .In culture and education nations experience a deficit when they ‘import too few’.This is what actually happened with education sector in Pakistan. The govt.should make it a permanent programme of the education policies and programmes to exchange the technical and cultural learning from the friendly neighbouring countries especially the Muslim countries .
The schlorships should be offered to the students coming from neighbouring countries to ensure that students of different countries are having a congenial and productive interaction with the world outside. It is praiseworthy that Ministry of Education is running a number of scholarship schemes for different target groups. These are pleasing steps of the govt. but this activity must be expanded to other neighbouring countries as well which will also increase the scope of Pakistani student as well. We are living in a digital era where the dimensions of learning and knowledge have been multiplied manifold. We cannot just peep into the world through a narrow window of knowledge .
Today’s world demands a wider perspectives and enlightened intellectual way of life.Pakistan’s education sector needs to cope with it which may not be a possibility but requires the struggle which can go out of the conventional ways of the country.67 years have taught Pakistani nation a bitter reality that without investing both financially and intellectually in the education sector will keep on giving disappointing figures .With the decline in education the track of the modern world can be bumpy. This creates a vicious circle with alarming poverty ratio and unemployment as the direct fall out and then again as the cause of the decline in education .Elevation of the education sector is not only the need of the hour but also essential to fulfill the MDG’s in their literal sense.

Top 15 Reasons Why Education is Extremely Important

..............................................
You may be knowing your A’s and B’s and C’s, but are you educated or just literate? No rolling your eyeballs please, there is a difference. Literacy is knowing how to read and write. Education is to be able to reason, to use your ability to read and write to your benefit and to be able to gain your spectrum of knowledge by trying to surge deeper into the literate knowledge imparted to you. We’ve had debates innumerable about why is it important for every country to increase the literacy rates of its citizens, but is merely doing that enough? No, we do not need just literate citizens, but educated ones too. We do not want to be a group of people who can read and write but make nothing out of it. Wondering what education makes of us? It makes us human, a robot can read and write to, but reason? Here are reasons why education is extremely important.

15. Avoiding societal embarrassment

Do you know that the societal segments were based more on your education than economic worth, just economically better off could afford better education too. Women were the aliens of the already alienated because they weren’t seen as able to mingle in a society where reasoning happened. It is extremely important that you be at par with the knowledge database to be able to mingle in a certain societal setting without being made to feel embarrassed or an outcast. Education helps you broaden that spectrum of knowledge and hold your own mind and reason.
14. Forgoing baseless superstitions

Are you aware that most superstitions we follow still were a brainchild of the educated and had a scientific reason to support it. Ironic that superstition today is deeply integrated in the culture of the uneducated. Why? Because they never seemed to reason why are they following a tradition blindly and hence times changed, the scientific reason held no ground for superstitions to carry on, but those on whom it rested to forego, had little ability to reason and let it go. You can never undermine the role of education in order to make a society free of baseless superstitions.
13. Reasoning against the illogical

You’d never believe anything without a reason, if only you have a reason for it. Take for example the inability of uneducated farmers to examine and analyse the quality or fertility of soil for a particular harvest and later regret and believe that the rain gods were displeased with them. They’d spend more on rituals to please the Rain God than they would to increase soil quality. If only they knew.
12. Keeping up with evolutions

You cannot keep up with evolutions unless you are aware of them. Awareness comes from Education. Imagine a world without WhatsApp! Was life really that hard before WhatsApp happened? Maybe not, but it certainly made life easier. This was only a grain of salt in what I’d say is an ocean of evolutions, all in one way or the other made to simplify your life.
11. Exposure to the World

Is it remotely possible to know of all the other nations while remaining in your own. It is. You’d have to read and place your understanding of the reading in the cultural and historical context of that nation in a particular period. You’d know just about everything French, Roman and Greek. You’d be able to build your understanding of their language and culture without simply terming them all as ‘foreign’.
10. No more a fool :Keeping your own mind

An educated person would listen to all, and do what suits him best. It is highly impossible to fool an educated person for it would take reasoning and logic to get him in the trap. Educations keeps you from being trapped in advisories that are no more fruitful than digging your house for the pot of gold.

9. A Healthier Lifestyle and living

Remember the world before anti-biotic happened? Or vaccines? Or sanitary napkins? Now place yourself where education is a luxury. Would you be aware of the medical or lifestyle finds which help detect and cure a disease. Are you aware that almost every person is allergic to 5 foods in his lifetime which may cause auto immune diseases? An educated person would know his health, live longer and healthier by resorting to healthier alternatives.
8. Adapting to newer techniques for productivity

There’s a reason why scientists are being paid in billions of dollars to build machinery that decreased the need for man power. It is however impossible to reap the benefits of that machinery has it to be used by those who have no knowledge of how to operate the machine for better productivity. Why else to you think most farmers, till date, swear by the traditional technique of irrigation.
7. Ethical values that help make the world more peaceful

It is in the habit of uneducated to spring up on arguments and cause harm to others and most to himself. Education would rather channel your temper towards a more productive and peaceful goal. While no nation would be at crisis, it would be only a more peaceful world without wars and battles.
6. Imparts ability to work across genres and cultures

Tell an uneducated person to work in a setting alien to him, you’d ask him to walk on a path of self destruction. Ask an educated man to travel nations and transmute the barriers of language and culture, you’d be testing his spirit of taking challenges and succeeding in them. The difference here has not to be of intellectual capacity, but it takes more self confidence than knowledge to not be intimidated by challenges life throws on you.
5. Economic growth of the nation

When the people of a nation are educated, they’d definitely carve ways to be self sufficient. An economically independent society is the stepping stone to combined productivity that leads to a economic growth of the nation on a whole. Now you know how those countries are doing so well for themselves?
4. A longer, disease free life for the younger generation

No intention of gender bias, but statistics reveal that if the mothers are educated, chances are that child mortality rates reduce by less than half. In fact, this is a reason by urban, educated women have healthier children almost free of diseases. Also, if either parent has received formal education, chances are they’d have fewer kids with better lifestyles than depend on more working hands by conceiving more kids. Also, educated parents immunize their kids and make sure that they play major role in their growth and development.
3. The Will to Keep trying till success strikes

It is only through education that you’d have multiple level goals and a number of ways to reach them. You’d have dreams which transmute to thoughts and later into actions. Your will to get your dream to turn true will be undeterred and you’d try in every way possible till you succeed. The uneducated may have better intellectual and labour capacity but the lack of understanding of multiple ways to achieve their goals is often an obstacle.
2. Earn your own living

With evolving lifestyles, steep inflation rates and luxuries transcending into needs, it is only impossible for a family to depend and thrive on one bread earner. You ought to work for self sufficiency and dependency and education helps you gain job opportunities for financial independence. Also, education helps you build a network with people who’s resources might work the best in your benefit if you so choose to be self employed.
1.Happiness abound : Stable, balanced, self dependent life.

You know why being educated is extremely important? Because for you to be happy, you need to feel good from within. It is only possible to have a stable mind and a balances life once you are self dependent and have a reputable standing in the society. By simply being educated you’d have little job insecurity, no inferiority complex and a well organized understanding of the world. Education may not be the key to happiness, but it definitely is the key to a lot of other things which come together to make you happy.
